Rare Peace, Raging World Workshop
This workshop brings the book Rare Peace, Raging World to life. In this all day workshop, you learn about the battle that is being waged within you. And you learn the skills and tools needed to equip yourself.
Those skills include learning how to slow down the thoughts in your mind so you can observe the internal dialogue within the self. Then you will learn how to calm the body and still the mind so you can tune into the Christ dwelling within you. It is here you have the opportunity to reclaim who you are in Christ and who you can be in Him.
It is for people seeking an elusive peace of mind from a Christian perspective and accessing a greater potential for themselves while a hidden war rages around them and in their minds.
"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." John 14:27
There is a War Going On
When most us attempt to "Be Still", we do not find peace -- rather we find discomfort for a very good reason. The discomfort is caused by a war going on within you. Without proper knowledge and skills, our attention becomes focused on "voices" in our head that shrink the possibility of what we are. These voices become so dominant that the small, quiet voice of Christ within you can not be heard as the core of your identity.
":but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members." Romans 7:23
The aim of this workshop is to help you still the voices of the self and tune into the voice of Christ within you so you can rest in His peace. In the rest you can reconnect to the source of your being and know where your true identity comes from. You shift from a human, doing for God, to a human, being with God. And as you achieve a balance between being with and doing for God, you find your world different. You will be more at peace with yourself, and you will be more effective in bringing forth God's world in your life.
How Do You Open Your Heart to God?
What is fundamentally different about this approach is that it takes a modern mind/body/Spirit perspective and grounds it Biblically. The flesh is presented in the light of the biology of modern neuro-science. The interconnected motivations of the mind and body are seen as aspects of your being that need to be understood and managed -- not ignored or shamed. It is in this new understanding and management of the self that we learn how to open our guarded heart to the possibilities of Christ's eternal love and peace -- and we come to new life.
"This is powerful -- a springboard to a deeper relationship with God." Tonda Gridley, Charlotte, NC
You will learn to use Biblical stillness as a tool to calm the internal voices within the self and to focus your attention so that you can experience the peace that Christ offers you. And in the struggle of our humanness, you will learn how to reclaim your identity in Christ. This is the inheritance that you fight for.
Listening For the Quiet Voice of God Within Us
If God spoke to you, would you know how to listen?
It is in stillness that we can discern the gentle whisper of God (1 Kings 19:11-13). This all day stillness workshop teaches how our spiritual connection is obscured by the noise pollution going on in your mind -- preventing your heart from being still and listening for God. (Just try sitting still for a moment and listen to all the internal noise). Here you will learn skills grounded in Scripture, Christian tradition, and cutting-edge science to help you cut out the distracting noise that surrounds you that form and find the stillness and peace where Christ declares, "I am within you." (John 14:20). With the skill set you'll learn, you will be on the path to choosing who your identity is in Christ or your identity governed by your biology (the flesh) and the emergent mind.
What People Are Saying
"This workshop is a place where we can understand what goes on when we let God in. It has helped me refocus my prayer life and helped me make sense of how my battle with the flesh is won." The Rev. Filmore Strunk, St. Margaret's Episcopal Church, Charlotte, NC
"Christ showed me His love by taking His heart out of His chest, pouring it out on the head of every person. He wanted the heart to transform the mind, which holds us back from true intimacy with Him. Thank you for making this day a milestone in my spiritual growth." Joyce Standley, Hickory Grove Baptist Church Counseling Center
"This helped me feel the Jesus in me. I carry the whisper of 'Be Still and know that I am God' with me all the time now -- along with a beautiful, peaceful image of Christ with His arms wrapped lovingly around me and holding me. I can now find peace from the negativity that used to run amuck in my mind. Thank you." Julie Putham, Charlotte, NC
